About

3 girlsJust First Communion is part of the Just Dresses Group, a family owned company established in 2003 and now based in Tunbridge Wells in Kent, UK.

The Tunbridge Wells Communion Shop is open from January to May by appointment only.  The reason we operate an appointment system is so that we can give each family our undivided attention in helping you choose and dress and all the accessories to match.  We have surveyed our customers many times and they ALL say they prefer this system to having a shop which is open to all comers which can get crowded when more than one family comes at once which invariably happens if we don't operate the appointments system.

The online shop is open all year round.

We are easily accessible from and therefore serve a wide customer base from Kent, East Sussex, West Sussex, London, Surrey, Hertfordshire, Hampshire and Essex. At only 20 minutes from junction 5 of the M25 (traffic depending) and with easy parking nearby, you can buy a communion outfit and spend a nice day out exploring Tunbridge Wells' shops and historic Pantiles.

We have a huge number of First Communion Dresses in stock at all times. These dresses are here for you to try on, buy and take away so there is no need to try on an ill fitting sample and then have one ordered in for you with a long lead time as can be the case in non specialist shops.

When you come, we will help you select the perfect dress for your child and if you require accessories, will show you our large collections of communion headdresses, tiaras, hairbands, socks, tights, gloves, veils, shoes and bags so that you can leave our shop with a complete communion outfit.  This saves you having to go from shop to shop.

For bigger girls, plus sizes are available for most of the Linzi Jay dresses with six different chest sizes for each length (up to an extra ten inches). Please contact us to check sizing, availability and prices for plus sized dresses in advance of your visit if you prefer.  If you do need a particularly large or small size, please do get in touch as early as possible in the season as these sizes tend to sell out first.  The beginning of January is the best time for this.

The Emmerling dresses particularly suit the slimmer children as the cut is narrower than comparable brands.  Plus sizes are also available to order at the start of the season.

Sarah Louise dresses are ideal for those who would like a shorter style dress.

communion veils

Welcome to Ceremodia, the online first communion dress shop specializing in white first holy communion dresses and accessories for girls. We also sell white communion accessories such as children's veils, girls'  tiaras, communion headdresses, white child sized communion gloves, bags for rosary beads and prayer books, white communion shoes, communion socks and white tights.

We are a family business and have been trading in childrenswear since 2003 and specializing in children's dresses of all types since 2006.  We are primarily an online communion dress shop but we do open by appointment on Saturdays between January and end April so that you can choose your perfect communion dress and communion accessories and benefit from our substantial expertise every step of the way.

Testimony to our popularity is that families who have bought one communion dress from us come back with their younger daughters to buy their communion dresses too.

We sell all the most popular first communion dress brands including Linzi Jay, Sarah Louise, Koko, Isabella Collection, Little White Collection and Emmerling as well as Sweetie Pie, Pretty Originals, Little People and plenty of boutique communion dress brands and first communion dresses imported from the USA.

UK postage costs range from 99p for a pair of socks, tights or gloves to a maximum of £7.95 which is for an order worth over £150.  Please see Delivery Information in the Menu above for the shipping costs chart.

Fabrics for communion dresses include silk, organza, chiffon, satin and tulle and we have many different styles including the more traditional A-line communion dresses and bigger puffier princess style communion dresses inspired by the TV Programme My Big Fat Gypsy Wedding - after all, every little girl deserves to feel like a princess for the day.

Everything on this website is white so you can buy communion dresses and accessories in confidence which will match each other as we do not sell anything in ivory for first communion unlike some of the high street stores.  If you need ivory accessories, please let us know and we can direct you to a different website which has ivory accessories.

For those non-Catholics wondering what this site is all about, First Holy Communion is a rite of the Catholic Church in which a child receives communion for the first time.  The communion wafer and sip of wine symbolises the body and blood of Jesus Christ.  A Catholic child usually makes his or her First Communion at the age of seven or eight because this is when they can understand sufficiently to make the decision.

A week beforehand, the child usually makes his or her first confession so that they are regarded as without sin before the First Communion is made.

Girls traditionally wear a white communion dress and a child's veil.  Boys usually wear a suit or something smart.  The family of the child in question usually has a party afterwards for friends and family.  Because the First Communion is usually made while the children are in school year 3 (year 4 in Liverpool and a few other areas), the most popular sizes are 7 years and 8 years followed by 9 years, 10 years and then 6 years. If you are looking for a communion dress in other sizes, especially for girls taller than 140cms, then you may be having trouble.  Please do get in touch with us at the earliest opportunity so we can help you find the perfect communion dress.  Plus size communion dresses are available in Linzi Jay dresses up to 10 inches wider than the standard size for each height.  Emmerling also make plus size communion dresses.

Please note that the First Communions are traditionally made in the months April to July.  For this reason, the manufacturers make the communion dresses ready for delivery in December or January to the selling season starts straight after Christmas and runs to about mid May when everyone then has their communion dress for the year.  If you are looking for a specific communion dress or style or an unusual size (i.e. not 7 years or 8 years) then you are advised to start looking as soon as possible after Christmas as communion dresses can sell out quickly and as they are only manufactured once a year, are not replenished.  At the beginning of the season, the manufacturers do hold a small amount of communion dresses in stock but this sells out very quickly and the longer you leave it until you buy, the less choice of communion dresses you will have.
